Bye Bye to ‘PointlessBlog’

Alfie Deyes has ditched his ‘PointlessBlog’ username after 10 years. A moment of silence, guys. But the vlogger didn’t address the change as he opened up for a chat with his viewers about everything he’s learnt at age 25 – including loving himself. 2019 is the year of self-love. We’re calling it.

Speaking to his fans, Alfie explained: ‘You should address yourself in a supportive, loving way.’ He added that he had never considered the ‘effect of speaking to yourself in such a negative way’. ‘You’ve gotta be kind to yourselves! You’ve gotta love yourself!’ he pointed out enthusiastically. Preach, dude. And Alfie’s no stranger to getting reflective on the internet, as he recently claimed it’s becoming ’embarrassing’ to be a YouTuber. The 25-year-old vlogger quoted a tweet from fellow YouTuber Jay Swingler, adding his own commentary which read: ‘It’s becoming embarrassing to be a “YouTuber”. 2019 is going to be a big year for creators on the site!’

‘What’s gonna happen in 2019 is; I’m making shit that I want to make, ME, not what YouTube or what you guys want us to make,’ Jay had written. ‘Your own happiness comes first and anyone who doesn’t support that can suck a fat fuckin rodney. Fuck revenue, fuck views. The real ones will stick around.’ It might not be eloquent, but it’s definitely to the point. And Alfie’s now following in the footsteps of Lilly Singh, who ditched her ‘Superwoman’ nickname back in January after her triumphant YouTube comeback. Swapping her trademark introduction, ‘What up everyone, it’s your girl Superwoman’ for ‘it’s your girl Lilly’ in a video, the 30-year-old explained that she’s ready to focus on her own happiness this year rather than putting all her energy into her online persona.
